Haggs, you just gave a great explanation on why Tim is considering red to not compliment his deck. I agree every deck does need a path to defeat. I think Tim would probably argue that part of Vader's path to defeat is the actual distribution and design of the deck. Now I personally think his path of defeat is mainly just no defense. I am a supporter of doing a minor tweak to the texts and combat numbers, which I deem as the "Power" of the deck. I personally think that the distribution and types of cards involved in the distribution is a good setup for Vader, which is what I deem the actual "Design" of the deck. Now to defend a little why I think the design is good, Tim touched on it a bit in an earlier post. Vader's weakness is his lack of defense, so they did two things to try to account for that. They raised his HP, and they provided him card options to try to directly or indirectly account for that. First option being the obvious one was to give him a healing card. They seem to have then thought of a way to keep it in line with his Theme (Attacking and doing alot of damage in various ways), and that is where they came up with healing as the result of attacking. So it does fit with the rest of the deck.
Next they looked a bit more outside the box. They saw that the more characters out on the board the easier it is to get to Vader, so he needed ways to eliminate those characters. That allows him to live a bit longer, all be it maybe not ALOT longer. This was done with the DD cards. Every DD card has the ability to target a minor, but some are even better and allow you to hit majors too... what a bonus!!!
Now, why have 3 of a card that only can be used on a minor? Well Vader really needed to be able to get these fast to make it work, so the card count needs to be higher. Anyone that has played collectible card games knows this concept. It's the very basic building block of deck design. You just have to accept that 1 or 2 may be dead weight. The trade off is that you ensure more consistancy in drawing the card, and that you will draw it faster. ATE does fit into the theme and ptv of the deck regardless of what you may think now. It still works as it was intended, but yes some characters strategy is to ignore the chance that Vader may have it in hand. However, you take a gamble when you do that, and sometimes it bites you in the kiester. Just a small strategy note when you are playing with vader... If someone rushes you... draw draw draw... drawing a ton with vader is very key to winning. make the opponent waste cards. Eliminate the minors quickly so his hand gets clogged. Yes having 3 of the minor only destroying card makes 1-2 be dead weight, but when their minors are gone. that is 9+ cards that are almost dead weight in their deck. After the minors are gone they can't hardly afford to discard the minor cards to heal... That action of drawing a card is way too important. I think I might be rambling a bit...
I hope some of my points make sense... some might have been addressed before, but others are new.
